■ TITLE
Zebrafish model for translational research
■ ABSTRACT
As an in vivo model organism for translational research, zebrafish has numerous advantages, including high genetic similarity with humans, rapid embryonic development, transparent embryo and high fecundity, compared to rodents and non-human primates. Furthermore, rapid advances in CRISPR and next-generation sequencing technologies have increased the value of zebrafish in human disease modeling. Zebrafish is increasingly being utilized to create functional disease models, promote drug discovery, and provide an important scientific foundation for the development of new clinical tools for the diagnosis and treatment of human diseases. Particularly, we focused on zebrafish disease models for biomedical research, mainly in neurological disorder and neurotoxicity. We have developed zebrafish models that represent several human disease, and developed a system to screen novel therapeutic compounds. These studies will demonstrate the usefulness of zebrafish model for research of human health and disease.
