TITLE
Coloring outside the lines: Exploring new functions
for fluorescent proteins
■
ABSTRACT
My
lab engineers fluorescent proteins to create new uses in sensing biological
events in vivo. I will discuss recent work on an unusually bright orange-red
fluorescent protein, the creation of a synthetic bioluminescent system with
high output at red wavelenghts, and the use of this bioluminescent system to
improve deep-tissue imaging in mammals. I will also present our latest research
coupling light absorption by fluorescent proteins to the control of biochemical
events.
