q TITLE
Spectroscopic and Modeling Studies of Complex Systems: Photochemistry and Photosynthesis
q ABSTRACT
In this talk I will describe a new spectroscopic technique – two-dimensional electronic-vibrational spectroscopy (2DEV), and several applications to dynamical systems. I will then turn to photosynthetic light harvesting and discuss the interaction of electronic and nuclear motions in energy transfer and in the spectroscopic connection between excitonic and site bases. Finally, I will increase the scale of the systems described beginning with the Photosystem II supercomplex and moving to large (300 x 300nm) patches of the thylakoid membrane. A fluorescence lifetime “snapshot” method will be described to illustrate the adaptation of whole leaves to changes in illumination intensity.
